Jon Whitcomb is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group. His practice includes civil litigation; including class action litigation; insurance coverage and defense; products liability, including pharmaceutical and device litigation; securities and shareholder litigation; commercial litigation; directors and officers liability; intellectual property litigation, including Lanham Act disputes; FTC investigation and litigation, professional liability, including lawyers, accountants, architects and engineers, and insurance professionals; general employment; and complex and catastrophic personal injury defense and prosecution.

His practice also includes business advisory, insurance advisory, including manuscripting of policy language, crisis and risk management, outside general counsel services and corporate governance and investigations. His clients include private equity funds, private equity-owned portfolio entities, hedge funds, publicly traded companies, private entities, insurance companies and high net-worth individuals.

Jon currently serves on the board of directors of the George Washington Carver Center, which is a charity providing after-school programs and support for underprivileged children. He is also on the Advisory Board for Future Five, a charity.

Representative Matters

  • Won an approximately $8,000,000 verdict against a private equity fund manager on behalf of oil and gas investors in Texas and Oklahoma assets;

  • Obtained a defense verdict in a $100,000,000 claim against Irish-based family office;

  • Settled products liability case on behalf of burn victim for approximately $7,000,000;

  • Won dismissal of fiduciary duty claim against principal of private equity fund in Federal court in Oklahoma;

  • Won dismissal of double wrongful death case against Town of Greenwich, Connecticut;

  • Won a defense verdict in a jury trial of a legal malpractice case on behalf of Connecticut lawyer and law firm in State court;

  • Won summary judgment on behalf of major insurer in common law and statutory bad faith case In Federal court;

  • Obtained 7 figure settlement in insurance coverage dispute on behalf of family office against major insurer in Indiana;

  • Settled $1,000,000,000 claim on behalf of major hedge fund against major insurer.

  • Jon presented recently a seminar entitled “Insurance Bad Faith Claims and Extra-Contractual Liability in Connecticut” at the CBA Law Center in New Britain, Connecticut.
